5. Specific GITCA Requirements
1. A GITCA Challenge Trophy is defined as a three-time win trophy as described
in AKC Rules Applying to Dog Shows, CHAPTER 5, Sections 9 and 10.
2. Donations of Challenge trophies will be accepted only from members in good
standing of GITCA. If a donator is no longer a member in good standing, the
GITCA Board may elect to retire the trophy.
3. In order to donate a Challenge Trophy, a proposal must be submitted to the
Trophy Committee which includes the name of the trophy, a description of the
trophy and the class/award for which the trophy is to be given. The proposal
will be reviewed by the Trophy Committee and then presented to the Board if it
is complete and follows trophy protocol.
4. The Board of GITCA will give final approval for all Trophy Donation
proposals.
5. The Name given to a Challenge Trophy must not include names of individuals or
dogs that are presently living per AKC Show/Trial Manual page 2-18.
6. Each Challenge Trophy must have a unique name.
7. Each class/award can have only one Challenge Trophy.
8. One GITCA member or Kennel can donate no more than two trophies.
9 .Only GITCA members in good standing may take Challenge Trophies home. A
contract will be signed which indicates that the member is responsible for any
damage to or loss of the trophy. The member must have their dog’s name and the
year of the win added to the engraved list of winners. The member must also
return the trophy to the Trophy Committee at least 60 days before the next
year’s event.
10. Non-GITCA members who win a Challenge Trophy will be able to have photos
taken with the trophy on the day of the win. The Challenge Trophy will remain in
the possession of the Trophy Committee. The Trophy Committee will have the
winning dog’s name and the year of the win added to the engraved list of
winners.
11. A Challenge Trophy can be retired by an owner and/or breeder winning the
award three times, not necessarily with the same dog. Permanent possession of
the trophy goes to the owner and/or breeder.
12. A Challenge Trophy can be retired for permanent possession by an owner
and/or breeder who is not a GITCA member.
13. Once a prize is retired, the retiree, if a member in good standing, has
first right of refusal to forward a proposal to donate a new Challenge Trophy.
If the owner/breeder declines, or if their proposal is rejected by the GITCA
Board, then the original sponsor may forward a proposal to donate the trophy
again. If neither of these individuals elects to replace the trophy, or their
proposals are rejected by the GITCA Board, then the class/award will be open to
any donation proposals from the membership.
14. After a Challenge Trophy has been retired, any wins prior to the retirement
date no longer count towards the three wins required to retire the trophy. Wins
towards the new Challenge Trophy for that class/award starts with the next show
where that Challenge Trophy is offered.
15. Replacement Challenge trophies must be of similar value to the trophy just
retired.
